WLR sponsored a student at the Houston Livestock Rodeo calf scramble. This event has been one of the more popular events at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for decades. Thirty kids chase and try to catch one of 15 calves. After a quick orientation and a bit of star treatment, the fun begins on the NRG Stadium floor. The students who catch a calf will use the sponsorship to buy a steer or heifer to show at the rodeo following year.
Here is Nathan Derdern, Palmer FFA, and Bill Pesek standing next to his show heifer. Nathan placed 1st in the Class I – All European Breeds at the world’s largest livestock show and rodeo. Congratulations to him and his blue ribbon heifer. Great job!
